Be Well is a powerhouse collaboration featuring well-known figures from the hardcore scene! Founded by Brian McTernan, the iconic frontman of straight-edge hardcore band Battery, the group includes Mike Schleibaum (Darkest Hour, Battery), Aaron Dalbec (Bane), and Peter Tsouras and Shane Johnson (Fairweather). Be Well emerged as an outlet for McTernan's emotions, following years of personal and professional challenges. After Battery's breakup in 2000, McTernan built a successful career as a producer, working on groundbreaking albums by Thrice, Hot Water Music, Circa Survive, and Turnstile. However, a career shift in 2014 to construction project management eventually took a toll on his mental health, leading to a period of deep depression.
Battery's temporary reunion in 2017, where they wrote their first song in 17 years, "My Last Breath," marked a turning point. This track became a precursor to Be Well, inspiring McTernan to channel his experiences into lyrics and form a new band. The result, The Weight and The Cost, transcends the legacies of its members' past projects, offering a deeply personal and innovative hardcore album. Unlike most genre-conventional hardcore records, this album prioritizes content over form, reflecting McTernan's emotional journey.
