CONVERGE – Hum of Hurt (Colored Vinyl) [LP]
PRE-ORDER
“Hum Of Hurt” marks Converge’s second full-length release of 2026 and continues their uncompromising exploration of the human condition. Inspired by the real-world phenomenon known as “The Hum”—a mysterious low-frequency sound reported across the globe—the band reimagines it as a sonic manifestation of collective human suffering.
Vocalist Jacob Bannon conceptualizes the Hum as an audible signal formed from the sum of pain in the world, detectable only by those operating on a similar emotional frequency. This idea permeates the album, giving it a dense, unsettling atmosphere.
Musically, “Hum Of Hurt” leans into emotional hardcore while incorporating elements of noise rock and experimental heaviness. Compared to its companion release “Love Is Not Enough,” which is more metal-oriented, this album feels rawer, more exposed, and dynamically diverse.
Opening track “Slip The Noose” explodes with intensity, driven by Ben Koller’s ferocious drumming. “Doom In Bloom” delivers abrasive riffs and visceral energy, while “Dream Debris” unfolds as a slow-building, doom-laden epic. The title track “Hum Of Hurt” stands as one of the most emotionally charged moments in the band’s catalog, reflecting Bannon’s personal introspection.
The album also features a newly recorded version of “I Won’t Let You Go,” originally created for Cyberpunk 2077, now reworked into a more complete and powerful form.
Recorded and mixed by Kurt Ballou at GodCity Studios in Salem, Massachusetts, with engineering by Zach Weeks, the album is accompanied by artwork created by Jacob Bannon in collaboration with UK artist Thomas Hooper.
