LA DISPUTE ´No One Was Driving The Car´ 2xLP
Epitaph
Six years after their last release, Panorama, Michigan’s post-hardcore pioneers La Dispute return with their fifth studio album, No One Was Driving the Car. Featuring Jordan Dreyer (vocals), Brad Vander Lugt (drums), Chad Morgan-Sterenberg and Corey Stroffolino (guitars), and Adam Vass (bass), this marks the first album entirely produced by the band themselves. Recorded across Grand Rapids, Detroit, the UK, Australia, and the Philippines, the collaborative, multi-environment process infused new energy into the project.
Partially inspired by the 2017 psychological thriller First Reformed, the album delves into existential malaise amid looming apocalyptic themes, heightened by the rapid evolution of technology. The title is drawn from a police officer’s remark about a self-driving Tesla crash—a surreal event symbolizing humanity’s tenuous grasp on control. Across fourteen tracks, La Dispute wrestles with chaos, comfort, and the search for security in an uncertain world.
No One Was Driving the Car is a poignant, dynamic offering from a band known for their ability to balance intricate storytelling with emotional intensity.
