New England has long been a cradle for some of hardcore’s most passionate and authentic voices. Enter Love Letter, a powerhouse band featuring members of Verse and Defeater, who carry forward this rich legacy.
Their debut album, Everyone Wants Something Beautiful, is an unflinching exploration of insecurity, self-awareness, and generational trauma. The record dives deep into the various forms of trauma and how it can ripple outward, affecting others. Love Letter is committed to crafting music that is raw, honest, and meaningful, reflecting the band’s two-decade-long journey of friendship and shared experiences.
The album blends evocative storytelling with dynamic instrumentation, creating an immersive listening experience. Guitarist Jay Maas (Defeater) not only performs but also brings his extensive production expertise from Massachusetts’ Getaway Recordings, where he has worked with icons like Bane, Counterparts, and Title Fight. "After two decades of producing records, it was exciting to collaborate with some of my favorite people who are also incredible musicians," Maas shares.
The lineup includes Defeater co-founder Andrew Reitz on drums, guitarist Matthew Spence, bassist and engineer Dave Alcan, and vocalist Quinn Murphy (Verse), whose poignant and fiery lyrics elevate the record to new heights.
The lead single, “Misanthropic Holiday or Vacation,” serves as both a warning and an indictment, challenging societal norms surrounding perseverance and surrender. The track crescendos into a cathartic release, demanding movement and emotional engagement from the listener.
Love Letter’s sound embodies freedom, pushing the boundaries of what heartfelt, heavy music can achieve. With their dynamic live performances and compelling debut, the band is sure to captivate fans of hardcore, post-hardcore, and screamo alike.
