The end came in 1998 during a basement concert in front of 50 kids in a college town in Virginia. The third album "The Shape Of Punk To Come" was just about to become a classic of the hardcore and punk genre, when the Swedish band around Dennis Lyxzen didn't feel like continuing. Lyxzén formed The (International) Noise Conspiracy, while bands like Blink-182, Linkin Park, Code Orange and Rise Against provided posthumous fame by pointing to Refused as a major influence. In 2012, they reunited for some festival appearances, and with "Freedom" the long-awaited comeback album is now released. "Freedom" explodes right away with the first track, when frontman Lyxzen impressively announces "nothing has changed" and thus catapults his band into the 21st century. The album was produced by Nick Launay (Gang Of Four, Nick Cave, Arcade Fire) and Swedish producer and Refused fan Shellback. "This is not a reunion," says Lyxzen, "but the most radical thing we've ever done, musically and lyrically."
