SCOWL ´Are We All Angels´ Cassette
Dead Oceans
Scowl is a hardcore punk band that perfectly embodies their name: venomous, fierce, and unapologetic. Over the past five years, the Santa Cruz-based group has become a dominant force in the hardcore scene with their aggressive sound and electrifying live performances. Sharing stages with legends like Circle Jerks, Touché Amoré, and Limp Bizkit, and performing at major festivals such as Coachella, Sick New World, and Reading & Leeds, Scowl has cemented their reputation as a powerhouse in modern hardcore.
Their latest album, Are We All Angels (Dead Oceans), showcases a broader, more dynamic version of their signature sound. Tracks like the standout single "Not Hell, Not Heaven" challenge narratives imposed on them by outsiders, with vocalist Kat Moss declaring independence from victimhood. Other songs, like "Fantasy," delve into themes of alienation within the hardcore community, while the title track, "Are We All Angels", explores philosophical questions of morality and existence.
Building on the raw energy of their 2021 debut How Flowers Grow and the experimental Psychic Dance Routine EP (Flatspot Records - 2023), Scowl has elevated their music with the help of acclaimed producer Will Yip (Turnstile, Code Orange). Yip’s influence sharpened the band’s hooks and choruses while preserving their trademark intensity.
At their core, Scowl remains deeply rooted in the ethos of punk and hardcore, fostering community while pushing boundaries. With Are We All Angels, they reaffirm their place as one of the most compelling bands in the hardcore scene today.
